What socks should you wear for Reformer class?
If your planning on starting reformer pilates you may be wondering if its a requirement to wear socks during your class. The answer is yes, for multiple reasons as socks help provide a barrier between your feet and the reformer foot bar or carriage therefore are needed for hygiene purposes. But what type of socks should you wear?
CAN I WEAR NORMAL SOCKS OR DOES IT NEED TO BE GRIP SOCKS
While you can wear your traditional socks this isn't recommended, as have you ever tried sliding in socks across a smooth surface. This is what happens when you use normal socks on a reformer, your feet start to slide especially when standing on the carriage. Whereas if you wear non-slip socks with grip at the bottom you'll have a better grip on the reformer carriage, therefore increased stability! Therefore you can do your exercises or hold your poses for longer without slipping and sliding.
WHAT ARE GRIP SOCKS AND THEIR BENEFITS?
The difference between grip socks and normal socks is that they have non-slip dots on the bottom, which helps to keep your balance by preventing slipping and sliding during your workout. As mentioned above they help to protect your feet from the metal footbar and carriage incase the last person to use it forgot to wipe it down. They also keep your feet warm especially in those early mornings or winter months!
So, do you need grip socks for Pilates? Absolutely! They enhance your workout and protect your feet. Don't hesitate to comment below for any grip sock related questions.
